Malunggay Life's Moringa Farm Well - Finally Completed!

malunggay-life-moringa-farm
Malunggay Life's farm well is finally finished. Yey! As we wait for the other moringa seeds to germinate, we have to prepare everything that our malunggay farm needs. And water is important if we want our moringa trees to grow good moringa leaves, as it helps transport important nutrients needed by our moringa plants.

Yep, that's dad and one of the workers. The first of the germinated moringa seeds have already grown a few inches high. Can't wait to see them grow mighty and healthy!

Can you see the shelter? Yes, it's quite a walk from the well.

More polybags containing the moringa seedlings. We want to place our nursery as close as possible to the well so that it's easier to water the seedlings.

The water must come from somewhere around the rocks between those three, thin, tall trees.
This is a video of the water flowing from the trees. There might be a stone somewhere where the water comes from. Wherever it is, I'm thankful that we have been provided a water source by the Lord Almighty so we can give our moringa / malunggay seedings water to sustain them.

How to Choose Good Moringa (Malunggay) Seeds

Some neighbors gave us mature moringa pods today. A lot of the pods measured about 12 to 15 inches long, and when we started opening them, there they were: the treasured, black seeds of the Moringa Oleifera plant!

Here are some of the malunggay seeds we've gathered. We have chosen the good moringa seeds for planting and discarded the bad ones.

There are several varieties of moringa, but the moringa oleifera variety grows well in the Philippines' tropical climate.

Good moringa seeds have what I call "wings" and have a black to dark brown color. The ones at the bottom are the bad ones and should not be planted. They are either yellowish in color, have holes, or are broken.

Moringa seeds are harvested from mature moringa pods.

We were like kids opening their gifts on Christmas day, as each moringa pod revealed good moringa seeds.

I think this was the longest moringa pod we've opened today.

Good moringa seeds are ready for seed germination!

These are the not so good ones. We're still keeping these moringa seeds for planting next time. Who knows some of them might still germinate and turn into good moringa plants?

Malunggay Life's Moringa Farm Well: First day of Construction

Construction of the well as our water source started today. Will update next time once the well is completely finished!

See those black polybags? That's our nursery for the moringa seedlings. They already contain the first batch of moringa seeds that have germinated. :)

We plan to set up more moringa plant nurseries for our moringa (malunggay) seedlings. Eventually, we want to plant more seedings that bear fruit. For now, we want to focus on growing moringa plants.
